Good wallpapers: Useful all-round backgrounds

Good wallpapers give you a clear picture and room to work. Rolling green hills at sunrise lead the set with soft mist and a clear sky. Seas, mountain meadows and lake reflections offer other balanced everyday choices with different colours and levels of detail.

Tip: Check the hill line behind your icons before choosing the soft sunrise scene.

A good fit depends on your own screen. Look for enough contrast to read labels, a quiet area where folders sit and a download that matches the display. The hills have gentle layers of light and mist. Compare their green tones with the soft teal horizon farther down the gallery.

Green hills in soft sunrise mist is a gentle starting point. Sunset gradient sky over a calm sea brings warmer colour. Soft teal horizon keeps the view spare.

Choose a picture for your layout

Try your favourite picture with your normal windows open. If the subject disappears behind them, choose one that puts its strongest detail near an edge or low in the frame.

Soft teal horizon is a simple choice for a laptop used for work. Colourful fireworks over a quiet lake gives the night sky more bright points. Keep labels away from the bursts. Try Panoramic mountain lake on a wide screen. Compare it with Wide ocean horizon, which shows only sea and clouds across the frame.

For good wallpapers, start with a soft horizon for daily use, then choose fireworks when you want more colour.
